Only an Angel Cries

Dark city at night;
Oh, what a site.
Streets filled with shadows,
Preying on forgotten souls,
Of those who don’t matter.
Hear the scream?
It echoes between buildings,
Like in a dream;
A sharp mark of killing;
Swallowed back into silence,
It dies.

And only an angel cries.

The alleyways breed violence,
Hide lies;
Call for help – scream loud;
It does no good,
There’s no one around;
Here you’re on your own,
Another forgotten soul;
Who falls;
A life disowned

And only an angel cries

In the distance – a police siren,
Worn from use;
A sworn oath to protect,
Evil overrun,
The officer’s heart is dieing
From endless abuse.
He barely reacts-
Holds the gun tight;
A shot rings out-
Pain no more.

And only an angel cries.
