A Bird Flying North
<poetry>
The poems in "A bird flying
North" were written during the three years leading up to a major
illness. Only some of the poems are autobiographical in nature. Most
are just thoughts and observations on life, humans, and the world in
general. The title of this collection is derived from a poem of the
same name where I compare humanity to ??a bird who has broken the
flock/and now flies wildly into storms and rain?.? This poem expresses
well how I've felt the last three years; like a bird flying north.

A Distance Between Us - Coming
Soon
When AL was thirteen, she had a choice
to make; she could continue living on the streets with her best friend
Wolf, or follow him when when he left to work for Mark Barron – a
known drug dealer. She had no other family or friends, so she chose to
leave.
Now, five years
later the consequences of that decision, and the life she has been
forced to lead finally catch up to her. When Mark plans a job that is
much too risky, she uses it as an excuse to run. But when the job goes
wrong, putting Wolf in the hospital, and sending the police after
them, she is forced to return. Now with nowhere to run, she is
forced to face her fears, question her future and confront her
feelings about her enemy - friend - guardian, and boss; Mark. He says
he wants a new start, but she doesn't trust him. It seems to good to
be true.
With the threat of
police hovering over them, a farm inhabited by a strange caretaker,
Mark's weird behavior, and the reappearance of Wolf's mother, it looks
like AL's wish for a normal life will never come true.
